I was suggested to come here from r/mechanicalpencils and so I am here! I haven’t looked too deep and I plan to look at your little community more later cause I’ve been thinking about getting a nice clacking and pretty keyboard and I see that a lot of the keyboards and mousepads here are very pretty! You are all interesting people with an interesting hobby!

Welcome to the hobby!

⚠️ Note of warning: stop at 1000$ spent. Trust me, you will spend way too much money in this rabbit hole. ⚠️

I didn’t even think you could spend a thousand dollars on this and now I’m more interested cause that means this is something someone is willing to really invest in!

Yeah it gets really expensive. Please, take my warning to heart before you fall too deep 😂.

Think of like headphones or fountain pens. There are a lot of different nuances if you want to investigate to search for the perfect keyboard. Switches, plate material, plate mounting style, case material, sound dampening, layout, firmware, et cetera. Some people are very concerned with how the switches feel, or the acoustics, or the perfect layout that is unlikely to be a standard QWERTY layout.

Or you can just try a few switches, pick what you like, pick a size and features, and call it done.

Run far away from this hobby before it's too late

I’m sure the spending isn’t too out of control with some restraint
