Very nice collection. I've just ordered my first custom board, and I already have a couple of other boards I would like to build on. This is a deep and expensive rabbit hole!!

It really is and I haven't even dipped my toes into the 75% world yet! Everyone calls these the "entry level" boards and I'm over here fine with that haha

I personally prefer smaller boards. Started with a Keychron K4, then downsized to a Hunstman mini. I've ordered the new Tofu60 2.0. I'm now looking at 40% ortho split boards. Might build my wife a custom TKL. Best thing about it is I don't even type on a daily basis, and I only recently started gaming on kbm.

Don’t I know it! Only got into keebs maybe a month ago, built my first, have a QK65 in the mail and I have a cart on Meletrix with a Zoom65 EE in it waiting for me to pick a damn color and pull the trigger 😩 I love it though

What board did you order?

Tofu60 2.0. Nice and simple entry board that doesn't hurt the bank account, too much!!

I hear that often but you have to see that in perspective with other hobbies.Years ago photography was my hobby. With 60+ camera's and uncountable lenses, scanners and printers that hobby is far more expensive. A sole lens can cost more than a thousant dollars.Friends of mine have automobile hobby. They like classic cars and not only invest in those cars but also in spare parts, monthly rent for garages etc....

The keyboard hobby is in comparison to these hobbies very very modest.I can lurk weeks for a set of switches costing 50 cents a piece and still not making a decission.

ctkgavin t1_j6figmb wrote

Youve got that right. Keyboards are an expensive hobby, but nothing like cars or cameras. My friends RebelT5 bundle was like 2.5-5 thousand when he got it new years ago, and most of that price came from the extra lens in the bundle lol.

Whats the knobed board?

>Zoom65

What does the knob do? is it a volume slider?

1

soundwithdesign t1_j6eewuf wrote

I think the primary function is mapped to volume, with mute/unmute by pressing the knob as well. However it’s VIA compatible so I bet you could map it to a lot of different things.

aa_dreww t1_j6elg0m wrote

Damn I’d buy one right now but it looks like they are never available

You may be able to find extras of the V1, otherwise V2 is in group buy rn.

Love those keyboards! If you don't mind me asking, what are the keycaps on the right top corner keyboard?

Is the purple one a NK65? Looks nice.

Would you recommend it?

2

shnazzyotter OP t1_j6d60ky wrote

It was a great first board to build. It wasn't too difficult and a very reasonable price. Don't think I would appreciate it as much if I was getting it now though.

Slap some silent switches on it and it's a great board to take to the office though

How's the Ikki68? Always been interested but never pulled the trigger

Man I love it, honestly probably my favorite. It was my daily driver til the zoom65 but I'm thinking of going back to it again

2

pbjellytimes t1_j6enfhj wrote

Same here, the zoom has the far superior layout as well as a knob (i have mapped knob press to discord mute, so i feel really naked without one), but something about the ikki just hits different

Getrektm8ter t1_j6bm6ey wrote

These are awesome. What keyboard / key caps are the top left?

2

shnazzyotter OP t1_j6bnmua wrote

It's a Bakenemo65 with Octopus PBT. Just a simple, lovely board

Details on the purple / decepticon?

2

shnazzyotter OP t1_j6bnt3v wrote

It's the Purple NK65 with the Black panther set off of Drop and that's actually the black panther logo. I'm not even a marvel fan but big fan of black and purple

3

Munenoe t1_j6dbolk wrote

That set was hands down the best of their marvel offerings, running it on my daily driver myself. Also the only one that sold out!

2

SquishiMochi t1_j6bu8h9 wrote

We seem to have very similar taste. I have the wooden 65 from KBDfans, the zoom 65, and have a Block67 on the way (remodeled Bakeneko65) The builds are looking sweet!

Not OP but that is probably the Octopus set from kinetic labs. It's cherry profile and PBT. I had them they seem to be in good quality, not sure about thickness but my RGB shines through some of the keys when the LEDs are bright enough.

pokopf t1_j6d2o4y wrote

Honestly, i feel like owning too many different keyboards of the same layout is sth i cant really releate. Apart from my vintage keebs (Cherrys, Model M, alps) i only own one 75% (keychron Q1, QK75 on order) and one 65% (kbd67).

I still havent found the absolute perfect 75% lookswise that also works feature and price wise (im an ISO guy) but its really good, and already having another 75% on order is weird.

The kbd67 isnt perfect cause of the rather harsh implementation of gasketmounting, but the ability to cheaply change the colourway by changing the top case is phenomenal. I have 6 different coloured top cases and they can completly change the look of the board. Doesnt matter its ABS, it feels good and i dont need the expensive alluminum frame.
