do you own it by any chance?

it needs some capacitor replacements to get it working again, i hope i dont end up getting the wrong parts when i end up buying the keyboard lol- though it is pretty cool even just for display

This is super cool, but you might have better luck asking this sort of stuff over at r/VintageComputing

Also, they'd probably enjoy seeing this.

Does it? Unlike a lot of micros the CPC's really don't have many capacitors present internally that can fail - the functions that usually need electrolytics are basically done inside the dedicated monitor instead. Recapping is almost never needed.

that's what the seller told me, though im probably better off sending it to an old repair shop and try my luck

They're not mechanical switches but you never got those on budget 8-bit computers anyway. Compared to a speccy keyboard these were exceptional.

Was my first computer as a pre-teen back in mid/late 80's. I remember spending an entire weekend typing in the source code for a top down racing game from a book, saving it to tape and playing, good times...

This is bringing back memories. It was my first computer where I copied Basic scripts from magazines and played games till past bedtime. Happy days.

I mean, the keycaps alone… if the electronics are screwed, you could probably remove the keyboard, use the keycaps on an identical size, caseless keyboard, and put it back in. For the numpad and arrow keys there are numpad only, and single switch pcbs you could use. Then you have a cyberdeck, that works as a keyboard (but bot computer), that just looks sick. Tldr: rip it apart for aesthetics if it doesn’t work

Cassette storage for the win! I remember loading C64 games that way. Start it up, go eat lunch, then come back and play!
