how do I burn a CD?

I don’t have a computer with a CD drive. My sister does, though—would it work to load songs purchased through iTunes onto a USB drive and then borrow her laptop, plug the drive in, and load them onto a blank disc?

And is any software required to burn a CD? Or can I just transfer them on? If my questions sound uninformed, it’s because I haven’t thought about burning CDs ever in my life until now! :D but I have a girlfriend I want to surprise. thank you in advance!

If you just transfer the files onto cd, it will save them as a data file and won't play on a lot of cd players.

You need to burn it as an audio cd. The software will then convert the file format to a file that players will be able to use.

itunes itself should have a cd-burning-feature.

but there is plenty of software for all OSs available.

You need software for it, of which I'm sure plenty free programs exist. More importantly though you need to make sure your sister's drive can actually burn a CD. Not all CD-ROM drives have the ability to write on black discs

Oh god. This is like asking about operating a telegraph or something. It’s been so long since I thought about this, but I used to know how to do it.

Back in the day, you’d get Nero Burning ROM or some software like that, put a blank writeable cd in the burner (not the reader, if there are two drives) and then load the files into the program and make sure you burn it as a music cd otherwise there’s a chance your stereo won’t know what to do with it.

If the files are mp3’s you may have to convert them to wav or some other format first, on the off-chance that there still exist stereos that can’t read mp3’s even when you do burn it as a music cd.

I’m sure you can find a modern and comprehensive guide on YouTube these days.

Go on your sisters computer Go to I tunes Go to make new playlist Drag and drop songs on playlist Then go to burn playlist to disc Pop in a blank disc Hit ok Wait till it’s done Then eject

is it possible to log in to my iTunes and have access to my song library on a computer that isn’t mine? I was getting the impression online that this would be an issue (that is, getting access to my iTunes library somewhere that isn’t my computer)

I couldn't think of the name of the software there for a second but remembered the icon of the Colosseum on fire which led me to recalling it was called Nero. Haven't thought about that in over a decade.
