If you could hear only one artist’s discography for the rest of your life who would it be?
I'd just yeet myself off a cliff rather than be denied my music, but maybe Journey? Or Survivor
The Beatles
Bob Dylan
Hands down, it has to Allan Holdsworth. His music has inspired me in so many ways. His out of the box thinking in music composition and playing always puts me in a good mood.
Maybe Buckethead, so much music
Alice in chains. Their discography is diverse enough to where Id be fine. They're also hands down my favorite artist so that too
The Clash, without a doubt.
If you’re talking shows, kinda.
Frank Zappa. So varied and vast. 60~something albums across almost all genres at the time of his life.
Minus the Bear
Can we pick single musicians that have been in multiple bands and projects?
Sure why not
Linkin Park or Starset
Prince, I would have to say
The Island Boys... NO, wait I meant The Beach Boys! I can't take it back?!...Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
Aaron Turner
He's been in multiple successful heavy bands, done tons of side projects, solo work, remixes, and one-time improvisational performances that have been released. I've always at least liked everything I've ever heard, and I love most of it.
According to Discogs (and there's more digital-only on bandcamp), he is credited with the following groups:
I feel like that'd be enough to keep me occupied and interested.
City and Colour
Paul Kelly a varied discography and a great story teller.
Maybe something that I haven't heard as much of as I probably should, but also something that would take forever to truly know thoroughly.
Would it be cheating to say Mozart? Like every Mozart piece.
If not, and if this is counting albums going forward, I could make an argument for King Gizz.
Bowie
I think it has to be Radiohead. Such a prolific band but also such variety! I'd never get bored!
This is the correct answer
Cass McCombs
Saying a classical composer is actually a super smart move and I feel stupid for not thinking of it!
Never even heard of him but now I’m listening. Thanks!
Dream Theater
Amon tobin.
Blur - The Beatles of the 90s
Radiohead
Aesop Rock
Rick Astley
Buckethead.
Deftones
Citizen Soldier.
Can't we do one for each genre
That's too funny but also effed up kudos to you
I almost put Zappa as my choice. The guy was amazing at his craft.
Nice. I will say he's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. But in the works of Frank Zappa "About Holdsworth, Zappa once said, “Well, there’s one other guy whose work I know should be included in that list who I respect and that’s Allan Holdsworth,” when asked about his favourite players."
Devin Townsend
Eric Chou
I cant believe it either but his songs are amazing. I cant believe I chose him over Jay Chou or JJ Lin lol
Insane Clown Posse
The Who
Even though they aren’t the Beatles the amount they have evolved and changed sonically is astounding. The started out pop rock and r&b covers then made one of the first proto-punk songs and then created rock operas. Unfortunately their later work is not as great but the first several albums alone are great and innovative. The first album not innovative but some of the songs and the non album singles are pretty good imo.
Edit: Typo
ATMOSPHERE
Impossible Kid is up there with my greatest albums of all time
Ray Davies
Led Zeppelin
For me it would have to be The Beatles.
[deleted]
Jamiroquai...It always makes me feel a vibe.
Led Zeppelin. They had so many musical arrows in their quiver (it is true that some of them were outright stolen from other archers).
The Beatles
Primus
XTC
Paul McCartney
Enter Shikari. Every record is good, different than the one before, and undeniably Shikari.
Hmmm, tough choice. Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, ACDC or Treat... tough choice..
I don’t think it’s cheating! As an opera singer, Mozart’s music has kept me busy for decades. Makes sense to me, and it’s a smart answer!
Pink Floyd
Coheed and Cambria. Epic storyline, a bunch of albums (20+ years of music now), amazing vocals, and lyrics that go above and beyond some of the more stereotypical cliches. I cannot think of another group I listen to more than I do Coheed!
Dream Theater
It’s been 12 years, and I still don’t get tired of them. They blew my mind as a ten-year-old and they still blow my mind today.
I’m constantly finding new ways to appreciate them, like learning guitar riffs or solos, or I recently got back into keyboards, and I’m learning how complicated Jordan’s parts can be. He uses lots of simplistic chords like triads, but he’s constantly changing and evolving the voicings, he rarely repeats the same thing twice. I’ve got Through My Words down and most of Far From Heaven. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of them.
Joanna Newsom
Dead Moon
Dylan
Buckethead
I could name numerous rock bands and singer-songwriters such as Dylan but I’m going to opt for Beethoven. Never tire of hearing his music of which there is music for every mood.😻
Dylan.
Rolling Stones
Dio.
Bob Dylan
Is it cheating to say my own? Then I can just write what I need if I ever grow tired of what's already there.
💓 Deftones 💓
Amy Winehouse
Same, never run out of music
I pretty much started this 4 years ago. iTunes made it easy. Driving my wife crazy. But I am 59, so she gave up trying to change me.
Is there anything else, really?
No its not. 7 studio albums. Maybe if you include their solo work.
Nick Cave
As a Jazz afficionado, no question that'd be the King of Woodwind, Kenny G.
I'm getting a little giddy at the prospect of only being able to hear his incredible virtuosic performances - sign me up!
Clutch, it's what I listen to most of the time anyhow

Bach if a classical composer is allowed. Bob Dylan otherwise.
The Beatles
Zeppelin as long as I have access to bootlegs
Ween or the rolling stones
Excellent answer to a very difficult question.
Megadeth, Metallica or Sabaton. I would just have to pick one randomly
Radiohead
Depeche Mode
It would have to be 311. I already listen to them almost daily. Wouldn’t be a stretch, at all.
11 LPs + Magical Mystery Tour (double EP) + ...
Bonus compilations (that are still considered albums):
There are bands that I enjoy as much as Genesis, but none of them had such a long run of excellent albums.
Beck
The Beatles were a one hit wonder ???
uh no... Nirvana was the "Beatles of the 90s" , and did it better by not overstaying their welcome
Steely Dan. Hands down.
Phish. Endless amount of music.
Maynard James Keenan. Tool + Perfect Circle+ Puscifer will keep me happy for the duration.
Throw one of these at me and I'll be happy.
Toto, The Tubes, or Steely Dan
Pink Floyd
Grateful Dead
[deleted]
Michael Jackson
Nirvana was the Kinks of the 90s
Blur were massive in the UK and prolific songwriters….incredible catalog of songs
Polly Jean Harvey is the choice for me, also collecting her vinyls despite being able to listen to them in spotify.
Pretty bad comparison
Pearl Jam for me. Plenty of material and I love it all, well, aside from Sweet Lew and Dirty Frank lol
Okay, okay. I stand corrected. Enjoy
Abbey Road is one of my dessert island albums.
Ty Segall.
So much variety. So much quality. Lots of albums. I can double down this answer if his side projects and other bands count too.
Ok dude if you only Song 2 I’m guessing you don’t know much British music in general
Jerry garcia. Grateful dead, Jerry garcia band, Jerry garcia acoustic band, old & in the way, Jerry garcia and David grisman. I could listen to just the shady Grove album for quite a while.
Can we also listen to albums they played on but weren't the headliner? If so, I'm going with Pharoah Sanders.
Death Grips
They are also a bunch of assholes. Look up their Narduar interview.
Are you Canadian? No one knows who that is outside of Canada or cares about that interview. If it makes you feel better, Dave apologized for his interview. It’s irrelevant. Sold out Wembley so guess it didn’t impact their career 😄
It’s common decency. And Blur showed none. And you think they are great, and that makes sense.
Ask 100 people if Blur were the Beatles of the 90s.
Even oasis is more of the Beatles of the 90s and that’s a bad take as well.
For sure! Every album has a banger and that one is full of them!
Sounds like what a Canadian would say
Paganini or Beethoven...
Guitar Shorty
Why thank you there, eh bud?!
Lana del rey, her voice is great and has songs with different sounds and lyrics.
Bowie
As a classical musician I have to say you can only play so much Mozart before you become thankful he died at the young age of 35.
lol, have you played Beethoven? I'll never forgive him for making the third movement of the Moonlight Sonata so hard, I am strugglinggggggg to learn it
What the hell am I doing here, I don't belong here
Yeah sure his music is nice until you severely underestimated just how long and hard the Moonlight Sonata is and now when you're into the third movement you realize your mistake but you can't stop now because you already learned the rest of it.
Exit light, enter niiiiiiighttttttt
Stephen Merritt (the magnetic fields) most notably but has several weeks of listening with other various projects
Better person than I am :). My daughter is doing piano 4 right now in her music program and for the end-of-semester recital I keep encouraging her to do that. She just looks at me like I am nuts.
Exactly! Songs for every mood you are in, or want to get into 😊

Grateful Dead, you’d never get through it all.
