Hi I want to ask you people for help in determining what do I mean by this statement, which, as I learnt, is highly controversial one.

I don't know why only I experiance this feeling, but for me Iggy sounds like he held himself back from shouting and screaming with full raw power. For example you can check the first verse that sounds flat, clean and restrained like the voice of 9 year old boy chanting church song before his first communion and he continues similarly for the rest of the track. Later in few moments it gets a little better (e.g. last 10 seconds of track where he randomly screams as he should over whole song), but it is still kinda muffled. Is it the mixing? None of the large variety of mixes (including unofficials) sounds good enough for me and this song has so much potential to be fire. Is it his voice? Does he really hold back, because that music was already extremely fresh for those times? Do I have different sense of screams (maybe my mother was to harsh for me in childhood)? For example (although i know it is somewhat distant genre) I reckon that grunge and any Nirvanesque music gives the perfect amount of full energy, uncontrolled screams, that would fit perfectly into Search and Destroy and maybe the whole album (however many other songs from this album are sung better, with that additional bit of energy). What exactly is the technical difference between those two styles, that one hits me and other sounds too calm? How to compare them? What to think about it? Do you even understand what I mean (because people I asked before completely couldn't comprehend that I do not feel energy in this song)? Tell me something pls. Maybe some voice emission or musicology terms exist for that?

This album is notoriously badly recorded, personally I prefer slightly the Iggy mix over the Bowie one but I do wish sometimes this album would sound a bit better

But Iggy's performance is fine and I completely disagree with the first verse being shallow.

"I'm a street walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm ,I'm a runaway son of the nuclear A-bomb" is an amazing line

Well, yes and no. I think I still prefer og Iggy mix or even some unofficial one I found but the song still needs more power. What I like about RHCP cover is the video from live performance where AK not knowing the text gets a few hints and makes the most fire performance of this song that ever existed just for his charisma on stage.
