There has been San Francisco during 1967-1968, Laurel Canyon, the jazz of New Orleans, the folk of New York City, and other places where music artists of a particular genre unknowingly or knowingly decided to come together and let their creativity burst through. I’m not well versed in the music history beyond the late 60s and early 70s, but I am aware that for every genre there’s been at one point in time a place where this has occurred. What are the current places where everything seems to be “happening” in regards to music?

The internet killed the local scenes. There’s still hotbeds of certain styles but a lot of them are holdovers. Jam bands are still big throughout upstate NY, for example.

There's a lot of great power pop and punk coming out of Melbourne.

Stillwater Oklahoma has been the starting point for a lot of great Red Dirt and Americana bands. Muscle Shoals Alabama too, in a slightly different sort of way.

With respect, New Orleans has always been a place where arts and cultures mixed, and will continue to be.

Austin is having a cool surge in genuinely good, unique country that is separating itself from pop country and the formulaic garbage that’s been coming out of Nashville the last decade or so

Nashville is having a resurgence of a whole new stripe, no longer a country town, everyone is there from country to metal from billy gibbons to joe bonamassa to Vince Neil to Vince gill and thats not even counting east Nashville and Franklin.. etc.
