Hardstyle is an evolution of a genre. It took me being into edm to really understand it. There's probably hundreds of EDM subgenres so don't trip if you don't connect with one or two of them. If you're interested in exploring the genre I'd be happy to throw some recs your way. What EDM are you into?

Check out Eric Prydz. Less drops, but you may dig it. Absolutely listen to Zedd's album Clarity. It'll be right up your alley. Maybe Kaskade's album Fire & Ice. Galantis also

>David Guetta

Really depends on which era of Guetta you listen to. He has a legacy of being pretty important in house music towards the end of the 90s but when One Love dropped his whole sound changed.

>Rufus Du Sol

Bob Moses. Any album, but Battle Lines may be the right entry point for you. Lastlings, Gorgon City and NEIL FRANCES may also be up your alley. Also listen to Lane 8. Brightest Lights may be an album you'd like.

>Zhu

I highly recommend you check out this set he did for Cercle.

Some albums I think are fucking great that you should check out:

  • Disclosure - Settle
  • Ross From Friends - Tread
  • The Chemical Brothers - Surrender
  • Porter Robinson - Worlds and Nurture
  • Adriatique - Nude
  • Justice - all three of their albums
  • Feed Me - High Street Creeps

Some mixes/live sets:

Have fun!

Do you like EDM? Have you been to an EDM show or rave? Also, do you like drugs? Just curious. EDM is a music that, for me, I feel viscerally more than any other. Hardstyle isn't my preferred genre but I don't hate it. But seeing these songs performed in a club with a wicked light show & good speakers where you feel those hits really helps get why someone would like it. I'd compare it similarly to the heavy metal of dance music where the fans may be former/current headbangers who like to go crazy in a show. The drugs don't make the music itself good, but they certainly can help. If I'm tripping on cid or rolling, EDM is gonna be the music of choice 9 out of 10 times because I don't need to think so much about it. I just give in to the music

That actually makes a lot of sense, my girlfriend and I eventually want to go to an EDM rave, I’ve never been the way you described. I do like EDM, but more like David Guetta, Galantis, and Rufus Du Sol

Nice! I'd definitely recommend going to a show more in the style you like, but don't shut out the idea completely to check out something new if it comes around. My favorite app for finding shows is EDMtrain, shows a lot of my favorite artists in my area. Drugs aren't necessary either, so don't worry about them (if you do get into them though, be safe & buy from a trusted source or bring a test kit to make sure taking what you think you are). I've had fantastic times both rolling & sober.

For sure, I’m trying to expand my boundaries of music as much as I can, the more the merrier. I’ll definitely check out the app. Honestly I can’t wait to go to a show because it seems like a really good time!
