Why does there seem to be no new music these days?

Why can I not find new music these days. There seems to be a void of new music, and I am not speaking of Swift and such music, but real rock groups that play instruments, have real singers.

Am I missing something? Someone has to be putting out new music somewhere so any suggestions as where to look for this? The old stalwart radio does not play new music, so where does one turn?

Edit So it's not my imagination that it has become more difficult to find new music and radio is dead for it as well. Now I guess I have to pay for everything even to just listen to see what's out there. Thank you everyone for giving your input and suggestions. I will definitely given them a try. I just got to the point where, while I like Queen, it has been played over and over on the radio to the point of nausea.

Music is not as important to young people as it used to be. Too many other distractions. Read any bio of a classic rock artist and they will universally say that music saved their lives and they gave all to their craft. Gen Z does not care about music so much.

You have to go out and find it these days. The streaming platforms are pushing what's already popular or dictating to you what should be popular.

You may have to get out and hit small clubs and venues to find new stuff. And when you do find something worthwhile, buy their albums, buy their merchandise so they can continue.

There’s lots of it, but you really have to look on all the different streaming services. Best bet is SoundCloud

Bandcamp. Resident Advisor. Pitchfork. Wire Magazine. Rock is now niche so if you want the traditional band skilfullly playing instruments I see it most in the eclectic and metal scenes. I'm not really looking because I'm open-minded enough to accept however the music is realised and don't need someone manipulating instruments in a rock band.

I get in the habit of just searching new albums out today every Friday. Take a look at titles and covers and check out what looks cool.

Allmusic, Metacritic, Consequence.net do a good job of showcasing new releases.

It seems that way because there is too much, so you are having a hard time finding new music you actually like.

There is, quite literally, more music than ever being made on a weekly basis. What are your mediums of listening? Streaming sites have playlists catered to nearly every genre for new music, music review sites are releasing reviews for new music every week. Radio, especially rock stations, may play whatever is “safe” to get them hits/plays because it’s a fading medium & they are desperate for listeners (& the rock nowadays is so divisive & maligned by rock listeners which is choking the genre, but I digress).

you need to look underground tbh. spotify playlists are full of payola and industry plants. i also find it hard to discover great music.

i would find an underground artist on IG and see who they’re following. go down a rabbit hole and see what you find.

I’m literally overwhelmed with new music lately lol. Like I don’t have time to get sick of anything before I’m inundated with more new stuff. You have to be almost trying to avoid it if you don’t think there’s any

So I guess radio is dead? There is no new music only "classics" since it's been about 10 years at least since something new was played.

I guess I've been in a cave for too long. It just seems like music has been segmented into streaming services that you need to pay for, or be on a computer. This really is depressing since if you don't already know a band you have little chance of just being able to listen and come across new music.

Radio for the most part is dead. I personally blame the radio consolidations, Clear Channel then later iHeart Media. They've effectively sanitized the market with their Playlists. You're best bet is small indie stations that will play the deep cuts or highlight new up and comers, but those are hard to find these days.

After the internet, songwriters have had more trouble getting paid for writing something great. Less incentive to write great tunes. Some get around it with grueling concert schedules, like Ms. Swift, but he big cash incentive from record sales and royalties has been damaged

Yeah based on the edit it seems they just wanted people to back up this dumb “No new music” claim. If they can use Reddit then why can’t they do a basic YouTube search and find tons of channels highlighting new music every day. Even bands that would fit his description of “real” musicians.

Of course it’s not true. Literally just look at the rise of TikTok. If their point is most young people are less likely to take up an instrument then that’s a fair argument but that’s most likely because it’s just easier now to download music software and go from there.
