I agree, the 80s and 90s seemed to have more one hit wonders. Not sure why and I don't really know enough about mainstream American music from the past 20 years or so to make a valid analysis of why that is. Someone else in this post explained it having with streaming options and that this has changed the hole landscape. It can very well have something to do with it. But at the same time, I would imagine that like with tik tok and all that it would be easier to make a hit and then just fade away.
