What happened to streaming service Tidal which was launched by all of the musical superstars back in the 2010s as a challenger to iTunes and Spotify?

What do you mean? It’s still kicking.

I've been using it for years, it's the best one in my opinion, just more expensive

It’s still around. It’s maybe a little more niche than Spotify. It doesn’t have podcasts but it has higher quality audio and I think better music discovery features.

Not having podcasts is one of the reasons i switched to it.

You switched to Tidal because it doesn’t have podcasts?

Not the above commenter, but I can totally understand the reasoning.

I considered a few different streaming services before ultimately settling on SoundCloud Go+. Spotify had two big strikes against it: the very low artist payouts and the prominence given to podcasts.

I buy most of my music, so when I stream, discovery of new artists and releases is the biggest focus. Spotify’s podcast focus detracts hugely from music discovery, so I passed on it.

If you’re really just focusing on music, having half the screen taken up by podcast recommendations is a huge slog.

You’re really overselling how much the podcasts are featured on the main page especially if you don’t listen to them

I agree. I see maybe 2 a week and if I don't click then they go away. I follow every artist I listen to so I get notifications on the feed for new releases and that pretty much takes over the podcast recommended

It still exists as an option for a streaming platform. In fact I love it because it, unlike Apple & Spotify, can be used with DJ software so I can use it when DJ'ing venues.

Nothing. I was using it this morning. I prefer it to all the other options.

I use it, love it. Although it glitched once and I lost all my saved music which is still a bummer

Cheaper than Spotify in my country, especially for the multiple licence contract

There's still a demand for it. I work for a high end audio visual dealer. The audiophiles often use Tidal to stream if they aren't listening to CDs or vinyl.

Tried it, abandoned it because it didn't have the option to organize my music the way I wanted.

It's still around, it's actually paying artist more than other streaming services. I don't think it's as varied as other streaming networks though.

I was just listening to music on Tidal last night. It hasn't gone anywhere.

They have just under 2% of the music streaming market, compared to Spotify's 31%.

It's around but it has some fundamental issues

I use it, kinda. The sound quality is much better than Spotify. I wouldn't use Spotify except for casual listening.

But then if I like some album then I just buy that album and I'd rather listen to the files on my PC instead of streaming from Tidal. It's a weird value proposition for me. I guess it could work for someone who has continuous internet access all the time?

I'm using it and loving it. Anyway, can I change the cover of my playlist like in Spotify?

It's great. If you have a proper Atmos setup it's the best way to go.
