I think this over-expressional singing reminds me of Elvis‘s Style, the commercialisation of music is the main topic of that piece. Like a barker on the local market. What do you think?

The song is intended to sound cynical and a bit annoying; the way Harper sings is part of the critique to the musical industry.

I‘m particularly referring to the rock n roll era from the late 40s to the early 50s, especially once it got commercialized that much

Don't know that it connects back to the 40's and 50's. It is definitely rock n roll. I'd call it riding the gray train
