Do you have any recommendations for bands that took a lot of influence from Fugazi? I've been falling down the early post-hardcore rabbithole lately and love following lines of influence in music.

Check out the early Dischord bands more than anything! That movement in DC was real. Some names:

Rites of Spring, Crownhate Ruin. Hoover, Jawbox, Smart Went Crazy. If you like chaos and noise, Void did that first (the bass player is one of my best friends lol).

As far as more recent/heavily influenced bands, or at least a second wave, or just post-hardcore in general:

Faraquet, Q and Not U, and a much more art-rock/glam-rock band is Shudder to Think.

(Edit: man really check out Faraquet and Q and not U. Super talented and unique bands, and very much DC bands).

Then there’s the late-‘90s/early ‘00s post-hardcore explosion, man so many bands, At the Drive-In especially (InCasinoOut and Relationship of Command are just milestone records), the Thursday type bands…

There’s also a much more musical offshoot of post-rock and post-hardcore. Check out Slint (Spiderland is a legacy album in the genre) or Tortoise or man I can name so many funky math-rock weirdo bands but you might like noisier stuff. But if you want that, for me nobody ever did it better than Don Caballero (some of those guys went on to become Battles, which is like post-modern post-rock lol).

For more chaotic stuff: Botch is fucking wild, Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan…

If you wanna get more specific I can try some more!

I really appreciate the in-depth response! I'll look forward to working through that D.C movement. Jawbox is one that I discovered recently that I've been enjoying immensely.

I'm not super familiar with the second line of bands you've mentioned so I'll give that a go as well.

The mid 90's/early 2000's explosion is what pulled me in . At the drive in, Sparta, and Alexisonfire sparked the curiosity for sure (plus a love of post-punk/new wave from the 80's)

In terms of the more musical/art rock type stuff, Cursive and The Dismemberment Plan have me hooked. They might be indie rock bands, not sure. I'll check those guys out also.

The choatic stuff is actually where I'm more familiar. Ire Works was a fun album. ISIS and The Cult of Luna are my post metal go to's. Idk if you've heard The Drowned God yet but if you like blackened anything you might enjoy them.

There’s definitely a through line to first wave emo as well (sunny day real estate is great) and bands like husker du are worth checking out too.

One Last Wish always tickled me more than Rites of Spring. Very melodic and approachable and intelligent where Rites of Spring often always sounded the same to me. Great list though dude. I was coming up in the heyday of ATDI and was all over the noise club circuit in my city. Saw some incredible shows. Q And Not U amongst the best of them.

My DC dirty secret is…I never liked anything Svenonius has done. He’s always just rubbed me so wrong. But the list had to be neutral! Lol.
