You should definitely explore the genre "Fado" and a quintessential artists of that genre, Amalia Rodrigues and Carlos Do Carmo. Fado is often ballads about longing. It's quite beautiful. My grandfather exposed me to it as a child, I still love it. There are modern artists that still keep it alive today.

Amalia has a song called "fado Portugues" lol can't think of a more "on the nose" example than that.
