Why is the Steve Lacy thing such a big deal?

I understand that maybe it’s a bit strange to go to a concert without much knowledge of the artist but should the audience be penalised for that?

Why should so much expectation be placed upon the audience? It’s not them performing.

I watched that now infamous concert clip and I just thought to myself “they sang the audience but; now the mics back to you, Steve

There’s always been casual fans that go to concerts for a single or cause they think the artist is hot, but lacy and a few others it’s been reduced down to seconds of a song-so an artist is putting in the same effort as before, writing recording and touring - and kids are showing up for a few seconds of an hour long experience (some are their just to get the footage of them there, not to hear it) then probably talking and on their phones for the rest of it. His reactions seem childish but I kinda get the frustration.

TL:DR TIKTOK reduces songs down to seconds, and there’s a lot of people that want to share that on social vs actually enjoy the show and engage with the artists work.

Yeah I agree he should still perform, esp because there prob ARE people who are deep fans of his there and it’s what he’s being paid to do. It’s always been a thing though, I remember nirvana would speed through smells like teen spirit sometimes for prob similar reasons.

Personally, I would also get pretty annoyed if a massive portion of my fame came from 15 seconds of one song. I don't know if I would react the same way he does, but I imagine it's pretty frustrating playing for these big crowds but in the back of your mind knowing none of them give a shit about 99% of your work.

Basically this rising musician, Steve Lacy, has had some pretty bored or angry performances lately and is blaming it on disrespectful fans. The most interesting part of the drama is how many of his fans attended a performance but only knew the chorus. I wonder why that's a bad thing considering it's not the audience's job to know the songs; it's the performers
