As a British person it’s easy to say bands like The Jam, The Stone Roses and Pulp but I feel like the internet age has basically eroded that.

Canadian group Tragically Hip is the obvious answer, but they are probably not as universally loved here as say, Great Big Sea or the Rankins.

Marianas Trench is the Canadian version of Maroon 5, and is exponentially better. Better lyrics, more talented musically, incredibly entertaining videos. They’re fairly well known outside Canada, but I feel like they should be bigger than they are.

Y’all have probably heard of Celine Dione, Shania Twain, and Sarah McLachlan. But I’d urge you to check out these Canadian songwriting women: Ruth B, Serena Ryder, Hannah Georgas

I’m from the US, so bands that are loved here are almost always known outside as well.

Just commenting to say that I LOVE the Cat Empire. They are so good live!!! It will be interesting to see how the new lineup is

One of the greatest rock outfits to come out of Australia is Cold Chisel They had a falling out with the US branch of the record label they were with, and basically got blacklisted from US music platforms - surprisingly few people in the US have heard of them, but EVERY single Aussie knows them. Their pub standard Khe Sanh is the equivalent of Living on a Prayer (in terms of everyone knowing it)

Adding another Canadian band to the mix

Metric

Would hear them on the radio all the time growing up and am genuinely surprised to find out not many people have heard of them
