Saw them what feels like a million years ago on the Long Cold Winter tour. Tangier/White Lion/Cinderella. The Cinderella set was absolutely solid. Tight, bluesy, and clean. Despite it being an outdoor venue in the summer Tom actually descended from the ceiling of the amphitheater stage playing a white grand piano in a simulated snow storm. Such a great gig.

Long Cold Winter is by far one of my favorite albums. Bad Seamstress Blues. The opening notes hook me every time.

Great band! The entire Night Songs album is still one of my favorites.

Heartbreak Station is one of my favorites! OP is right. Tom Kiefer is a great performer. His voice was so unique. He could sing in several different octaves. I still listen to those guys.

I'm Gen X and Cinderella was a band I listened to back in the late 80s and early 90s. They were good but there are so many bands today that have talented musicians who play their own instruments. I am not sure what you are trying to say here.

I second your opinion. I've seen Tom Kiefer a couple of times in the last decade and he's definitely still solid as a performer.

I think Cinderella's main problem is that they were just another popular glam band in the glam era. The fact they were popular at all, and his name is still recognizable says something. And this is coming from an early 90s millennial who missed their prime rise to fame

Probably OP is saying that some (not all) musicians these days rely on backing tracks more often these days than bands did back then.

They had a lot more substance than a lot of those bands. I saw Cinderella about 20 years ago and I’ve seen Keizer 3x since. He is a solid performer. I think they had the whole glam vibe and got lumped into a passing fad. They definitely had some more bluesy music than rock at times.

If they had more of a Black Crows vibe going instead of hair metal, they’d have found more long term success. I don’t think they are underrated though, Keifer gets a lot of respect

They were really a bluesy rock band hiding behind a hair metal image. Kind of like Dangerous Toys (far more southern rock than glam), and Saigon Kick (if anything, they were kind of a bridge act between 80s hard rock and 90s grunge).

I am a fan, and unlike most folks I like their later albums more than the first one. Record labels definitely pushed them to be a glam hair metal band, but Tom was a fan of the blues and that did show in some of his tunes. Heartbreak Station is a good album and so is Still Climbing. Those both were released after the band's peak popularity. I would like to know how his solo albums compare.

I could listen to "Nobody's Fool" all damn day. I grew up in the 80's so I liked 99% of the hair bands but they weren't near the top of my list. I much prefered Tom Kiefer's voice low and "quiet' rather than screaming and high pitched. Or at least balanced more.

Absolutely despised glam rock back in the day. Bubble gum pop melodies and shallow lyrics wrapped up in a bad boy disguise.

Loved Cinderella though. They had a lot of blues and soul influence the other bands were missing. Shame about the hairspray, it put their heads on the chopping block when grunge took over. Shame, they were really trying to pull away from the pack and do something different on Heatbreak Station.

Heartbreak station. Really showed their potential away from the hair metal. Flamed out though

Great live band as well, but grunge killed most of the glam scene very few managed to survive that shift sadly.

One of the better hair bands, probably in the lower end of my top 5.

Love, love, love, Cinderella. One of my favorite hair bands ever. I got to see them my senior year of high school. 1989 second row. Opening act was the Bulletboys and Winger. Good times.

They were by far my favorite of the 'glam' bands. Probably since they had that actual blues backing. Long Cold Winter was a change for that time, actual substance in music. I saw them 5 times on tours for the first three albums. Never a bad show. The only 80's band I'd see now if they came around.

mikerftp t1_ixtqkf7 wrote

Their music is pretty good but the singers voice is very raspy in a way that doesn't click for my ears. In my opinion the bigger bands in hard rock genre have better singers.

If you don't think musicians today play instruments or have talent you're just not listening to the right music.
