She was heavily influenced by prog rock, but I suppose it's a matter of debate whether or not to call her that.

One way or another, I wouldn't make song length the deciding factor. Her songs may not have been typically long, but half of Hounds of Love is one song cycle.

This argument came from a video in my rock history class, me and the other students are having a discussion on it. I agree the length of the song shouldn’t be the deciding factor, but that’s what a lot of others are arguing. Thanks for the helpful answer :)

Technically she's considered Art Pop.

Genre is just something used to facilitate the marketing of music to the right consumer. Its a label that makes it easier for a buyer to find it and buy it……

Many artists aren’t confined within the closed parameters of “genre”, which actually, in most cases are defined by others rather than the artists themselves.

I mean it was in a video for my rock history class, so I guess I could say I heard it instead, but yeah I “saw” it.

I agree that she's art pop, which shares a lot of common ground with prog. She gets included in prog conversations a lot because of the David Gilmour connection.

Kate Bush is neither Prog, nor Rock.

edit: Why the downvotes? I love Kate Bush! I have an original first pressing of "Hounds of Love" on vinyl. You guys are so dang salty
