This soundtrack is the only physical CD I still listen to because it’s not on any of my streaming services. Pete Yorn, Foo Fighters and Ellis Paul are my favorite tracks.

I only saw the movie once like 20 years ago but they totally nailed this album.

I’ve been an AFI fan for a long time. If I remember correct. This cover was played on the radio because it was the offspring. This ended up helping AFI get Days of the Phoenix played on the radio. I could be wrong, it’s been a while, but that’s how I remember it.

Edit: and because AFI was on Nitro Records at the time, it was a cool move from The Offspring to immediately promote their best signing.

I find it odd that Cake's song Hem of Your Garment isn't in that tracklist. I know it can be a thing where a song is in a movie but not on the official soundtrack. Besides the fact that I always associate that song with this movie when I hear it, it's such a good ass song.

This reason is why I find it strange that people care about movie soundtracks at all. It's a separate piece of art, associated with a movie but not necessarily containing art made for the movie or featured in the movie. For me, that basically relegates soundtracks to a tiny niche interest... which i guess is where we're at, hahah, sorry lol

I've never had the luck to see them, but I had the All Hallows E.P. CD back in the day. The beauty of this song is as long as you know a few words, you can happily caterwaul along to the rest and it'll sound just fine.

I first saw this film in 2002 when I was newly married with a new baby and exhausted and overwhelmed. My ex husband was upstairs on his computer and eventually had to come downstairs to find out what I was laughing at. It was a couple of hours of total joy at a time I really needed it and I'll love that film forever because of it ❤️

I think most people who know about them can agree that their first 4 albums—up through Black Sea—were brilliant, but after that opinion is divided. English Settlement (1982) was the start of their "pastoral" change in musical direction, which I wasn't a huge fan of. They still had some good songs here and there from that point on (e.g. "Dear God" from Skylarking), but I don't think on average it matched their earlier quality. I do think their early stuff was better than Talking Heads.

It's definitely an interesting change in musical direction - one that I am a big fan of. I love both ends of the band's history almost equally, tbh. But I think a lot of that is because the first album I heard from them was Apple Venus Pt. 2. Then I kind of floated backwards through their catalogue.

One good thing going for them is that the people who love them really love them, myself included, and always try to get others to listen to them.

That said, they still deserve way more attention. People who are really well-informed about older well-regarded music know who they are and hold them in high praise, but they really do deserve to be up there with all those similar bands that manage to be labelled as "cult bands" despite being relatively high-profile.

For me they are one of the greats, and it would have been great had they gotten the recognition they deserve.

It's hard to know if things might have worked out differently for them had they been able to overcome some of the difficulties they had to deal with: things like Andy's inability to continue touring, their shitty record deal, and assorted tensions between the group members maybe exacerbated by those things.

Also they've opted not to make the excellent Apple Venus Vol. 1 and Wasp Star available on any streaming service, so that also limits their exposure to only their Virgin albums.

But I love them; they're definitely in my top 5 favorite bands.

The studio considered the song selections in that movie "too weird" or "too out there" to put out an actual release. Songs like "Beat City" by the Flowerpot Men, The Dream Academy's instrumental cover of The Smiths' "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want", BAD by Big Audio Dynamite, Radio People by Zapp, it was a great list of songs but not considered commercially viable as an official soundtrack.

I still listen to Pete Yorn's debut album. About half of the songs appeared in TV shows and films in the early 2000s. He seemed to be on the brink of breaking into the big time. It's a shame it never happened.
