Looking for albums that follow the story of a single character. Other concept albums I've loved have come from Neutral Milk Hotel, Death Cab for Cutie, and Sufjan Stevens, so preferably in that loosely indie-folk sort of vein but really I'm open to anything.

Thank you in advance!

The Decemberists almost fit the bill for The Crane Wife and The Hazards of Love, but both have more characters and intermission songs of sorts.

Devin Townsend Presents Ziltoid the Omniscient (a few songs are supplementary to Ziltoid's story)

Pink Floyd The Wall

Some of my favourite concept albums in that vein.....

American Interior by Gruff Rhys. Follows the story of 18th century explorer John Evans searching for a lost Welsh tribe in America

Also Gruff's side project Neon Neon - Stainless Style about John Delorean and Praxis Makes Perfect about Italian publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli.

Ex-Auteur Luke Haines has some great concept albums like 8 1/2 Psychedelic Mediations on Beitish Wrestling in the late 70's and early 80's . Does exactly what it says on the tin. Or his North Sea Scrolls album.

Didn’t mean Death Cab had an album about a character sorry just that I enjoy that vein of music, Plans is probably the one that comes to mind if I think of a Death Cab concept album

The Dear Hunter's Acts I-V albums follow one whole concept:

Act I: The Lake South, the River North (2006)

Act II: The Meaning of, & All Things Regarding Ms. Leading (2007)

Act III: Life and Death (2009)

Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise (2015)

Act V: Hymns With the Devil in Confessional (2016)

Full explanation & overview of the concept - http://worldprognation.com/the-dear-hunter-full-story-explanation-and-overview-part-i/

There's supposed to be an Act VI, but they're taking forever with it.

Kayo Dot - Hubardo (absolute masterpiece of progressive metal and beyond, and a 100 minute concept story carried perfectly through).

Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties. Every song is written as a character and follows a story of a couple divorcing and how Aaron handles it

Not really in the genre you mentioned, but Streets: A Rock Opera by Savatage is one of my all-time favorite albums, and a great concept album following one guy
