Canadian music icon Ian Tyson has died at 89.

As Corb Lund put in the article from CBC:

> He's kind of our Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash or Leonard Cohen. He's a guy who's most embodied the region in art, musically at least,

His music was a fixture in many households, mine included. I've always loved his music even as my tastes went in quite another direction.

RIP. Navajo rug, MC horses, and Four Strong Winds might be a few of the best country western songs ever written.

MC Horses is a favourite I don’t see mentioned much. I can’t deny Summer Wages as my favourite but that is one that’s spent a lot of time on repeat.

Leonard Cohen is Canadian. Is the CBC person in the wrong field of expertise?

Hah, nice catch. The quote is from Corb Lund, a modern day Canadian country star. It’s a completely valid eyebrow raise even if it wasn’t the journalist making the comparison.

It was a direct quote from Corb Lund, another Canadian country singer/songwriter from Alberta. Pretty sure the Cohen part was meant as, "He's our (Canadian country music's) Leonard Cohen."
