Saw them this summer and was blown away how good they were. My expectations were lower since they’re getting old. The Strokes lead singer was terrible, was definitely putting in a b effort

Frusciante is the youngest at 52! The rest are near or at 60.

Glad he’s back in the band. Saw them a few years ago without him and they’re just not as exciting. He’s amazing

GrouchoNJ t1_iz3g596 wrote

Nice to see others say it, Frusciante is so critical to that band. So apparent every times he leaves, even when Navarro filled in, massive gap.

Frusciante’s solo record Empyrean is so good as well

Freedom_Addict t1_iz4owzm wrote

Agree Frusciante is core to RHCP, although One hot minute was a cool album too

HydroLoon t1_iz1d1oy wrote

Was there for RHCP + strokes @ giants stadium. Strokes LS was trying to do crowd work + was generally off putting, tho they played well.

RHCP was the return of the magic that made that band so great to begin with. W John back you can tell they've been in the creative space they started in for a while, and it really comes thru in a fantastic varied live show that wasn't afraid of deep cuts

uprightsalmon t1_iz356zb wrote

Agree, having John back in the bank put them back on track!

Has he ever not?

I've seen them (but it's been a while) and they've always put on a good show. That said, I did have to laugh when one of my co-workers said, "The Chili Peppers are just the Rolling Stones of Gen-X."

4

RZAxlash t1_iz33nsu wrote

Yup…saw both bands in Philly. RHCP was clearly the headliner. The Strokes probably sound better in a small indoor venue but they did not impress anybody.

2

Dr_Findro t1_iz1k65p wrote

Huh, that’s surprising. They were at ACL recently and I heard nothing but terrible things about their shows from everyone I talked to

I’ve always liked RHCP, but part of me hopes there is another giant ticketing fiasco with Ticketmaster to shine a light on that livenation monopoly shit. Taylor Swift didn’t do jack about it, maybe RHCP will? Doubtful, but sure would say something if it happened again so soon.

What a weird NA lineup. For example there's four shows in six weeks, they're going to Fargo ND, and it looks like St Vincent is only with them in Vegas for the one show.

8

jonmorrie t1_iz0geix wrote

I'm imagining it has to do with the fact they just played the biggest stadiums in NA this past summer. Would be odd to play the same big stadiums again less than a year later

yousyveshughs t1_iz1f1bd wrote

Saw them last August and they absolutely delivered one of the best shows I’ve seen all year. Their set list was fantastic and they had great energy. Honestly it was everything I could have asked for and more. Only complaint was the length and speed of the merch line.

One of the baddest, very good at their craft.

foreverbanned5 t1_iz0oajr wrote

Paid 150 dollars to sit in almost the last row in a huge stadium in August. The stage was lame and they played for an hour and a half. No encore and Didnt play a lot hits. For a stadium tour I had never been more disappointed. They were much better when I saw them in 2012

Edit: downvoted for sharing my experience of a recent RHCP show lol I'm trying to save you guys money. The show did not justify the costs. It's the RCHP. I expected a 2 hour plus show and a cool stage. They played a 90 minute show with their amazing discography? The video was just some very extreme close ups of their faces with some mid 2000s Webcam filters on it. The foo fighters sent you home exhausted. They played 2 and half hours at least every time and always brought the energy

kornkid42 t1_iz2ma0w wrote

I keep seeing under the bridge on their setlists, but they didn't play it in Vegas, gf was pissed.

Jcomsa15 t1_iz2vv7o wrote

Where did you see them play? They rocked+played several hits in Denver and Detroit.

famousanus82 t1_iz3m0ms wrote

I saw them in Belgium more than 20 years ago. I was a hardcore fan. Let's that I wasn't afterwards. I have three colleagues that saw them on various occasion (one of them caught them in the US). Same conclusion.

I saw MrBungle at the same festival the year after. Stellar performance. So you know who won the feud in my heart.

Anyway they only released underwhelming albums since Californication.

I can't stand Kiedis anymore and Frusciante is channeling Hendrix too much.

Flea and Chad Smith are the best part of RHCP.

BookCougar t1_iz17bry wrote

Highly recommend. Seen The Chili Peppers with The Strokes as openers in Vegas this past summer. Amazing show.

After seeing them at ACL this past year I don't know if I would spend money on another chili peppers headlining show. It was fleas 60s bday and sure it was great seeing John back with the band again but mannn Anthony couldn't have seemed more checked out.

Saw them at aclfest. I heard how bad it was at week 1 but thought it was exaggerated because how awesome they were years ago

Went week 2. They were terrible. They looked bored. They didnt play many of the big hits. Like 30 minutes of bored people watching a lot of meh. Then a hit. Then nothing for 20 min. Ended way early (but like 5 minutes later than the previous week)

The last time they played they had the audience eating it up. It was a well crafted setlist. Kedis talking and working crowd. When they hit give it away the crowd went apeshit. 10s of thousands all the way to the back. This time people had just sat there for so long that it was a dud and i was really close to the stage.

I had a bad experience in Dublin, but that was mostly cos of people throwing alcohol constantly and being on coke. It's put me off going to big popular bands tbh, too many going there to just be annoying.

8

KolhiiHead69 t1_iz2qht2 wrote

Will not be going to see them. I've seen them twice, both times they didn't put on a good show. Setlist was too short, Anthony's pitch was all over the place. You could tell they were just going through the motions to collect their pay. At the end of the concert everyone but Chad immediately left the stage without even acknowledging the crowd and Chad got on the mic and thanked everyone for coming out.

Just affirmed my opinion that Chad Smith is the coolest member of RHCP.

Good god I forgot about Arctic Monkeys. So good, so boring. Probably why I haven't circled back to them in a few years even though they were my favorite and smashing repeat for a solid 5 years

Ordinary-Pirate2869 t1_iz2uut0 wrote

Most disappointing band I've ever seen live. By the third song, the entire crowd was chanting "BRING BACK STP (Stone Temple Pilots)!!!). STP rocked, chili's were garbage.
