Hey ya, the classic 90s song from 2003.

True. It is predominantly an 80s 90s show but I always have at least one "rulebreaker"

horsey66 t1_j287svq wrote

There's at least 3 "rulebreakers" in this list and it bothers me!! Lol

1

Bmantis311 OP t1_j2886my wrote

Yep. There are 3 in the list. Don't let it bother you bud. Just rock out and have fun.

Pretty generic, reads like a karaoke night bingo list

Bmantis311 OP t1_j263k0s wrote

Well obviously it is going to be generic. They are party requests so will hopefully would be songs everyone knows.

Gary_Vigoda t1_j272t1h wrote

These are all the most generic songs ever. There's no flow or continuity between them. We used to dj an 80s retro night in the 90s/00s.

80s had genres too. Metal, punk, funk, new wave, etc...

The best plan is making small 3 song sets that are similar and using the last song to segue into the next set/genre. It's a lot easier when you have a crapload of albums in front of you to choose from.

Take one song from your list. Money for Nothing. Easy, pick a couple 80s tracks that have a similar vibe. It came out in 1985.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Year-End_Hot_100_singles_of_1985

There's lots of songs on that list which would work. Doesn't even have to be the same year.

Appreciate the feedback but that is just not what my radio shows are about. The shows are designed to be very random and completely mix the genres up. I will often play a 90s eurodance song and back it up with some hair metal from the 80s. Very non traditional style but my listeners love it. I was inspired when creating it by a radio station here called Bryan FM. It is soo random. They play anything and just mix it up so the listener has no idea what is coming. I understand this style is not for everyone though but it is intentional.

Gary_Vigoda t1_j2743j9 wrote

You have your format. Mostly I was just suggesting songs to add to your playlist and got carried away.

That's cool man. Appreciated. Thanks for being cool. There are so many asshats on reddit just looking to troll.

How are these generic songs exactly???? Just cause you know them and they're still popular???

1

DrinkMoreCodeMore t1_j27o84i wrote

Agreed. OPs list is the Pumpkin Spice or Karen playlist of the 80s and 90s lol

Not bad. Something to please most people.

Nice to see those tracks from Outkast, House of Pain, Prodigy and Beasties. Personally, I'd use the Peter Cetera song as a cue for a bathroom break so I didn't miss the classics, but not every song is for everyone, lol.

2

Bmantis311 OP t1_j25u4qe wrote

Fair call. I have a lot of listeners that love The Karate Kid movies so this was a request. I thought I'd throw it on at the end as a wind down track. I usually play a slower track to close out shows.

1

DeadEyeMetal t1_j25u2j0 wrote

I'd have had 'Walk This Way' by Aerosmith and Run-DMC in there somewhere...

2

Bmantis311 OP t1_j25ubu5 wrote

Great track. Would definitely have included it if a request came through for it. Good party song

Well, if somebody starts playing this music, and especially that top 3, and ESPECIALLY NR 1 AND 3, on a party I will leave. This is so overly generic that every workday is a party; because this are the same songs you hear again and again on almost every radiostation everyday.....

Only nr 7 stands out a bit.

2

Bmantis311 OP t1_j27jpj0 wrote

It's a party request show. Obviously people are going to request well known songs for a party show. What were you expecting, King Crimson or something? Lol

1

[deleted] t1_j27m3yo wrote

No, but I was not expecting the goddamn direstraits and Brain Adams. If you consider that "party music" you must be a very boring person.

I'll think the same of people who think direstraits is party music.

It's boring babyboomer music which reminds me of endless boring road trips.

1

Bmantis311 OP t1_j27n71g wrote

I'm guessing you didn't go to many parties actually in the 80s. Money for nothing cranked.

And no. It is gen X's music not baby boomer's

1

[deleted] t1_j27ndlr wrote

I was born in the 80's so yes, I didn't go to a lot of party's in the 80's, I am sorry for that but I don't deceide when to be born so yeah...

1

Bmantis311 OP t1_j27nmih wrote

That's cool. You just don't understand what we rocked out to and what was cool in the 80s. You had to be there I guess.

1

ToxicAdamm t1_j281ogv wrote

Painfully white list. Peter Cetera and The Proclaimers should never be on any ‘party’ list.

Missing so many bangers from American R&b acts, G-funk Rap or Parliament Funk, the Eurodance era of the early 90’s, Latin freestyle dance-pop of the 80s and 90s.

2

Bmantis311 OP t1_j286m3u wrote

I'm guessing you don't know about the sevens. 500 miles always blows up there https://youtu.be/KfFElExGubY

Each to there own though. These were the requests from my listeners and the songs they wanted to hear. Feedback so far has been great.

Glory Of Love gets requested a fair bit on my show because many listeners love The Karate Kid franchise
