I’ll start: ZZ Top’s La Grange. Maybe it was waaaay ahead of its time (I think it was recorded in 1973…) or maybe it sounds so out of time and unique that to this day, nothing else sounds like it. It also helps that it’s the Blues, and the Blues transcends time and genre.

I have listened to later Beatles productions on vinyl direct-to-disk cut from studio masters and you’re right. Not only were their songs great and the playing and singing top notch but the engineering was excellent. The music jumps right out at you.
