TFFPrisoner t1_j5zz0uv wrote
I mean songs that fulfill the OP's request of having drug references. There are songs about dying, about flying, about money, about mental illness, about war, but about drugs?
mareck001 t1_j65drk0 wrote
The whole album is based on Syd Barret going crazy due to psychedelics overuse....
TFFPrisoner t1_j65ezak wrote
Still think there are more obvious choices in their catalog. "Nobody Home" springs to mind.
Syd inspired them, sure, but DSOTM is pretty universal - I think Roger said the concept was "pressures of modern life" and that's how they started putting ideas together.
mareck001 t1_j6650xe wrote
That was the wall and it was the pressures of fame and being a rock star.
DSOTM was a slow slide into mental illness

Depends on what you call good, as I listen to a lot of musical variety. Here's a few I haven't seen yet:
The Needle and the Damage Done - Neil Young.
A Short Term Effect - the Cure (to name the most blatant one...)
Drugs - Roxy Music (I think, I mostly know covers - Eno and Ferry wrote it)
Rocket Man - Elton John
Space Oddity - David Bowie (if too vague, Ashes to Ashes verifies - ashes to ashes, funk to funky, we all know Major Tom's a junkie - strung out in heaven's high, hitting an all time low).
