Hey there! Me and my bandmates want to start a home studio to record our stuff. But we don't know everything we need, and google showed me results for a studio fit for a vocal artist(mic, mic stand, pop filter, headphones etc) but the thing is,that won't work for a metal band made of 2 bassist,a drummer,a percussionist,a vocalist and 2 guitarists.

I know we might need a lot of stuff beacause we are quite a few members, and it will be easier to record electric drums, and we accept that. What should we buy,for a begginer home studio setup? We already have everything we need to play our own instruments, but record-wise we got nothing! If anyone was in a similar situation with us,please tell us what you bought for your home studio,it would help a lot! Thank you!

A small mixing board, if you can get one that records multiple tracks at the same time that's great. Microphones for vocals and if it's small maybe a few room mics to capture around. Maybe 1 or 2 mics on the drums to get the range. A decent computer, mixing software, monitors. A thousand bucks would do a decent small studio for like indie stuff. You can direct instruments into the board and use fx on the computer, or mic the amp and go from there. I'm sure YouTube has a bunch of tips also.

I think the first question is, are you looking to record playing as a whole band, or record the instruments separately with a guide track or metronome?

If recording as a band you will need lots of audio interface inputs and lots of Mics for proper control of every instrument, as well as space and absorbant panels to minimise bleed from one instrument to another.

Separately, with a metronome, beacause if we all record there would be chaos lol

You would need a interface/mixing board for vocals/mic’d instruments, mics.

If anyone in the band has a helix or pod go or similar modeling pedal you could record guitars and bass through that.

A computer and a DAW, garage band, reaper, logic, protools and so on.

Depending on what you have you could do it for $250-$1000.
