Ethel Cain's album Preacher's Daughter from last year takes a lot from the same 90s influences as Soccer Mommy

True, but the lyric "filling up the ashtray" reminds me of long bygone times.

People have already mentioned some great bands all I'll throw in is Skating Polly. Some of their songs are in a similar vibe while others will be a little harder but overall big 90s vibe

Maybe this doesn't fit but Soccer Mommy's "Unholy Affliction" has some Portishead vibes imo.

A lot of great female-driven favorites listed. I’ll add Vero. Check out their song Beluga. And Laura Lee & the Jettes. Check out their song Wasteland. And also I’d add (male) Car Seat Headrest. Check out their album Teens of Denial.

As someone who grew up in the '90's, which actual 90's bands do these remotely sound like?

I mean, theyre not trying to make 1:1 reproductions of 90s music, but you can hear the influence of Mazzy Star, Liz Phair, Belly, Veruca Salt, Alanis, Catatonia, Elastica, That Dog, Saint Etienne, The Sundays, Velocity Girl, The Cardigans, The Breeders (more Drivin on 9 than Cannonball), Helium, etc.

Clewin t1_j6bnomn wrote

Strangely, Cannonball was Tonya Donelly era Breeders and Donelly formed Belly after leaving due to Kim and Kelly's (Deal sisters, Kim was former bassist for the Pixies) addiction issues. She was in step-sister Kristen Hirsh's band Throwing Muses before that. Always thought she had a lovely voice, but didn't really keep up when she dropped off the map to raise kids. I know there was a Belly reunion a few years back, but I missed it.
