Curious to hear which albums make it on your Mt Rushmore, and I will aim to listen to as many as I can in the next year. This doesn't have to be what albums you think are the best musically, but which albums are your 4 favorite/important, whether it's musical taste, it shaped you, nostalgia, etc. I didn't expect it to be this hard to choose 4, but mine are:

Blue album-Weezer

Wish you were here- Pink Floyd

Relationship of command- At the Drive In

The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me- Brand New

Demon Days is peak Gorillaz, phenomenal record

You'd be surprised how many people I have talked to about Gorillaz who DON'T agree with that sentiment. It's nice to hear someone who agrees for once.

I've slowly been working through gojira and mastodon over the past year, and wasn't sure where to start with meshuggah so catch 33 it is! Thank you!

Also, never heard of Mr bungle so that will be fun since I have zero idea of what to expect with that

Ever listen to Faith No More? Mr Bungle is Mike Patton's band before he joined FNM.

My CD player in my car broke and stopped ejecting CDs. Luckily it decided to do this with Demon Days trapped inside, so I listened to that album A LOT when it was released.

Television - Marquee Moon

Those Poor Bastards - Satan Is Watching

The Beatles: Revolver - The masterful magnum opus of one of the most influential rock bands in history.

The Who: Who's Next - My favorite album of all time. Every track could have been a single.

Steely Dan - Aja: Steely Dan is my favorite American rock artist by far, and this is, for good reason, their defining album.

Pearl Jam - Ten: My favorite American album. Constantly great grunge rock.

  • Linkin Park - Reanimation
  • Tool - 10,000
  • Wu-Tang Clan - Wu-Tang Forever
  • Atmosphere - You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having

These were the first albums I owned in their respective genres (if you consider indie hip-hop to be a genre). Not necessarily the best in their niche or even in the artist's discography, but they got me into a lot of fantastic music.

3

gmorkenstein t1_j5yfg51 wrote

Lot of Midwest love for Atmosphere. They’ve been on my radar for years. But I’m surprised I’ve never given a full album a proper listen. I’ll do that today.

2

HecatombCometh t1_j6375xm wrote

All of them are good in their own way, but from The Family Sign (2011) onwards they sort of enter the "dad-rap" subgenre. You Can't Imagine... or God Loves Ugly are probably the best places to start.
