Idk how i feel about onsite cannabis consumption places. Like i get it its like a bar type thing but i feel like in the same way they wont let you bring in /smoke what you got and there will probably be a ridiculous cover charge. Smoking on the fire escape has worked for me!

Hopefully they do it like in Amsterdam, where you can consume outside products but have to get something from the establishment.

Too bad they don't seem to be doing anything to the upper floors except exterior cosmetic work.

As someone who works in cannabis land use planning, it's an equity concern to provide spaces where people can smoke legally. Only homeowners really have a legal space, as rental units, parks, and most sidewalk areas formally prohibit it (of course enforcement is a different story). It also provides a more private and comfortable space to smoke vs the sidewalk, as well as a space for newcomers to experience weed in a supervised space.

The interesting peculiarities in NJ are that there is an incredibly strict delineation between food/drink and cannabis. Edibles can't look like food (child safety), and consumption lounges can't be on the same premises as a place serving food and drink (probably child safety too, but I imagine that's more so the liquor-license lobby at play).

That said, just buy some pre-rolls for a few bucks and enjoy the lounge.

There's a place in Queens that I was excited to try because it said consumption lounge/infused foods. I looked at the menu recently and saw they charge 100 or 150 for a membership or 25$ per visit....not ideal but I get it, gotta make your money and you're one of the first people providing the service openly. Looked at the menu and saw calamari for $40. Ok that's the infused price I guess, kinda rought but no biggie....na. There was a separate infused menu. That place is not staying open very long
