Any tips on where to go for a weekend Vaca? I'm coming from PNW and I'm taking my mom that's coming from California. We're planning to head there in 2 months for a quick weekend Vacation. She mentioned she wants to go to NY. Uber seems to be pricey. Are trains safe? Where should we go?

Thank you.

Hundreds of thousands if not millions of people take trains into NYC every day. Yes, they are safe.

The PATH from Newark Penn Station goes directly into the World Trade Center, if that's of interest. The station is a mall now. Go upstairs to street level and you can see the memorial; there's a museum, or you can walk around the plaza and see the memorial itself.

There's lots to see walking around downtown. You can walk over and see the Brooklyn Bridge (walk across it if you are able & its not too cold/wet).

It depends what sort of stuff you and your Mom enjoy. Shopping? Restaurants? Museums? Walking?

Where are you staying?

Are you actually interested in where to go in Newark, or are you flying into EWR and figured this would be a good starting point?

If you're in town for a weekend only, you'll be limited how much you can get done.

Trains from Newark to NYC are frequent and very safe. Either PATH or NJTransit available, depending where in NYC you want to end up.

We're closer to vailsburg. We're flying to EWR. Another family member has a conference around town in Newark but they're not going to be with us, They will be separate. Mom wanted to see Statue if liberty.

So you'll need a way to get from Vailsburg to Newark Penn Station. Plenty of Ubers & light rail if you're willing to walk a bit.

I'd recommend going to Jersey City & Liberty State Park. Can get the ferry from there out to the statue I believe. Also great views of lower Manhattan

Path train from Newark Penn to Hoboken. Take the Jersey City light rail from Hoboken terminal to Liberty State Park.

Simply use google maps and click the transit button.

Yes I realize I can do this but it's better if I ask a local person for their opinions. Thank you for your input

Transit routes arent a matter of opinion. No one knows your exact origin and destination.
