Looking at an apartment right near Monte Irvin Orange Park. I've heard East Orange is not good but anyone know much about this neighborhood?

E.O. is mostly fine tbh. Depends on where and what type of property. I know several who have lived there and never heard much bad outside of typical Newark/Essex stuff. I'm not familiar with that particular area so might want to get opinions who have better knowledge.

West of the park into Orange is fine but east of the park south of 280 is abit rough. The Northern part of East Orange or north park ave is also fine. Orange for the most is fine just be aware that parts of the city are prone flooding near NJT tracks , the river isn't marked but during violent thunderstorms or an ida level of heavy rain over a period of a day those areas tend to get flooded badly. This also continues down into South Orange and Maplewood...

That's the Rahway River East Branch. It flows South on its way to Millburn where it meets the West Branch Rahway coming down South Mountain reservation to form the greater Rahway River.

Also, the Elizabeth river begins in Newark at the old Vailsburg / Irvington boundary at West End ave.

I worked in the area for a few months at the nearby church and walked in that park everyday, never had an issue. I patronized a few restaurants on Orange Avenue; one had the best Jamaican food in NJ. Like most places, keep your car locked after you park, and make sure nothing is visible that would entice a break-in.

It is a good neighborhood. You've got the VA hospital in South Orange just blocks away. West of Monte Irving Orange Park you have a section of orange that looks identical to South Orange minus the gaslamps. The only sketchy area is between Montrose Avenue and South Orange Avenue. Where the Vailsburg area of Newark Zig Zags in and out.

Many parts of East Orange (and Orange) are gorgeous. Severely underrated. But there are definitely shady areas. "Near" that park, depends. You're probably good. Just use common sense.
