Can anyone explain this in English. I don’t really understand what is being accomplished here.

The PATH extension to the airport station was supposed to open this year. They actually haven't even stated construction. What this article is saying, is that they will move forward with the portion of the project that is basically a staircase and sidewalk from the existing NJT station to the nearby road.

Oh ok thanks. So basically us south warders can access the air train to the NEC station now. That’s actually pretty awesome

I mean it'll still take like 5 years but yes eventually, youll be able to use the NJT trains there without having to go all the way into Newark Penn or Elizabeth

I don't know if people would really get anything out of this station. Unless they worked near it...as there really isn't much residential within walking distance. It would be better to have a station at Meeker Ave along the Raritan Valley Line.

The 37 and 107 stops there, so if youre going from say New Brunswick to Weequahik (as a college student might) this will cut at least 20 minutes off your trip each way

I agree Raritan line should also have a station there

I disagree because you can get ride there or bike there

It's a very pedestrian hostile area mixed with heavy Industrial traffic.

Im sure there are plans to build the area up. Hell, after the PA announced plans to extend the PATH, much of the land around the proposed station was bought up and Im sure developers are already planning residential/mixed use properties to take advantage of another station.

It is an odd choice. On the other hand it does lend itself it to possible connections with 37, 107 and CoachUSA 24 bus lines and opens up redevelopment opportunities should Newark decide to go that route.

It can easily serve the residents of Weequahic and Dayton. It'll most likely serve weequahic as a park and ride if redevelopment takes place around the station.

Also, opens up so much more job opportunities for people in those neighborhoods who finally have a more permanent and reliable form of transit to major employment centers like downtown/JC/Hoboken/NYC

They are just opening up the station to the local community. Mainly because of the studios opening up across the street so they need a way to shuttle actors and office workers there.. but the economic opportunity for the area is huge seeing as it basically opens up another area of newark to more investment.

Exactly, idgaf about the studio. But i live 5 mins away and commute to nyc every few days for work. I usually hop on 78 and park in jersey city. Now I can just get a ride there or something and sit my ass on the train without having to drive in rush hour traffic
