Maybe one day they'll distribute more public trash cans to cut down on the insane litter problem.

One day

I will say there are a few, emphasis on few, neighborhoods where there are ample trash cans but people still littler anyway.

You're not wrong unfortunately. I've watched people just throw shit on the ground with a trashcan within a few feet.

Infuriating.

I remember in one neighborhood seeing two trash cans in reasonable proximity to each other, that weren't full, where people were electing to place their trash into a local community newspaper dispenser instead. As expected it was falling out of onto the street.. smh

How about having sanitation actually pick up trash especially the one they spill in the street while trying to empty the can in the truck

We've had all sorts of issues with Dept. Of sanitation and trash pickup.

We've had them take trash bags off the top of the can, but leave one in the bottom.

We've had them just blatantly ignore certain cans, but empty ones right next to it. Caught on video just ignoring our cans.

We've had them just totally skip pickup days for no reason

They'll regularly just throw empty cans into the middle of the road.

And they have the audacity to ticket us for accidentally putting our trash out on a holiday weekend when there was no pickup, even though their website had information that directly contradicted what they claimed was the correct procedure. Website hasn't been updated in years.

I had one incident where we had no cardboard pickup for 4 weeks due to 3 consecutive holidays, and being out of state for the other, and the volume of cardboard was just getting insane, even when broken down. I called them to find out where in the city I could take the cardboard myself so I didn't have to wait another week for the pickup. Turns out they fundamentally won't let people drop off trash or recycling anywhere in the city?! Even small towns have garbage and recycling centers where you can pull up, drop off your various recycling, cooking oil, electronics, batteries, etc. Yet in a city of ~300000 ppl, that has a serious trash/litter problem, they have no resources like this available and scoffed at the idea I was trying to get rid of stuff the right way.

Newark sanitation is an absolute fucking joke...sorry for the rant lol
