This use to happen a lot back around 2008-2014, the police really needs to make their presence known during after school hours. If we don't stop this now it can get much much worse.

The Police is no where to be found these days. So many bad things are happening in this city, unreported with no police presence. Drug dealers all over the downtown and people shitting and peeing everywhere.

Since the pandemic, it feels like everyone across all facets of society has lost what was left of their minds.

That's the modern viewpoint on crime. The pendulum will swing back, it already has a bit. Terrible what is happening in Newark though, just really untenable and unacceptable.

It clearly isn’t everyone; that would lead to anarchy. The fact of the matter is; when the factors that disincentivize crime ( arrests , prosecutions, social sanction etc) are removed, those who would otherwise commit crimes are emboldened to do so. There simply is no other explanation for the rapid rise in crime we are seeing over the last 18 months. The tragedy of it all is that the victims of these crimes will ultimately be the poorest and worst off among us.

Prevailing wisdom in this sub is that there is nothing to see until the murder rate in the city reaches 1980 level; at this rate we will be there in 12 months. If you think it’s bad now, just wait till Biden tanks the economy and the unemployment rate hits double digits.

I wonder if defunding NPD by 12 million had anything to do with it

It certainly has . They are down about a thousand officers. I just had some incidents in downtown recently ( shop widow cracked by people fighting), and before that 2 weeks ago the same widow was cracked by some fucktard. Police only showed up after the perpetrators left, almost like that every time you call NPD l. I talked to the officers very upset, i almost yelled at them. They told me to calm down and explained to me how it's only two officers patrolling the downtown area (from symphony hall to broad Street station). It's out of control, while going on lunch break I recorded some shittty situation lol ( literal shit in downtown) i wanted to post it on here , but it's inappropriate.

Crime is trending up nation wide in deep red and blue areas , places with strict policing and places without... A lot of it is tied to Mental Health and certain politicians egging on the mentally unstable.

So insanity is now a defense for looting? Large numbers of “mentally ill” individual are surprisingly able to coordinate the ransacking of retails outlets, selecting the most valuable and street salable items to steal. You might want to rethink your support of the insanity defense. Who are the politicians egging on criminals ?

A lot of the looting incidents are due to gangs...often reselling things... I'm talking about the rise in Road Rage , Domestic violence , random violence like being pushed onto the tracks on the subway or punched walking down the street....and its not always people who look mentally ill...its increasingly normal people without any criminal history just snapping and killing people.
