Long ago and nearby, a good tan was considered "a healthy glow." SPF of two or four was more than adequate.

my mom and dad had a huge one of these in their home. they had a ground floor apartment next to restaurants and clubs. apparently when my mom would leave my dad would invite a bunch of woman to take photos of them on this chair.
