I met her about 10 years ago on an airport shuttle in Ft Lauderdale. I didn’t recognize her and just started chatting with her. She said she had just flown in from NYC and some gig. I asked how her music career had worked out for her. She laughed and said it had turned out really well. Then I asked what her name was. When she said Lita Ford I just laughed and she did to. I apologized for not recognizing her but she said it was funny. Very cool woman.

She would come into the Starbucks I worked at and buy a ton of tea to take back to her island. She said that the people who lived there loved the tea, so she was stocking up.

She married a crazy dude who ended up fucking her life up pretty bad.

> Speaking about her custody arrangement with her ex-husband, Lita said (hear audio below): "By the time our divorce was final and everything was said and done, it was such a joke that it didn't matter what I got on paper. There was no way I was gonna be in those boys' lives. They were such a mess by the time I left and my ex-husband left that it just didn't matter. I just needed to walk away from everything and regroup and come back with Plan B. The big problem for me was I couldn't find them after hiring four or five private investigators and them being out of the country in a Carribbean island. I really didn't have any United States… The Hague Convention, the Hague treaty was working against me with them being in a Caribbean island. And when they did come back to the United States, it took me nine years to track them down and find out that they were living in Tennessee. If somebody wants to fall below the radar, they can."

> Asked what justification the courts used to deny her custody of her two children, Lita said: "They said I was not taking the medication that they prescribed for me that was absolutely ridiculous. It was just an excuse. I did everything in my power that they asked me to do. I did everything. They had nothing on me. And my ex-husband was just lying, he was just making up stuff as we went along. It was just insane. And as he made stuff up, there was no proof that I did all these things he said I did. It was just absolutely crazy. Because I really was a great mom. I put everything into being a mom. I stopped my musical career. I focused on nothing but my boys. I homeschooled my boys living on that deserted island. I mean, I spent all day every day with these kids. I had stacks of books. And then we would go fishing and we would cook dinner. We had a great, great relationship. So for them to turn around and say, 'Mom, you did this and you did that.' Like, 'Wait a minute. You guys are dreaming. You guys are being brainwashed by your dad.' And the attorneys are just feeding off of that."

Too young for the Runaways, but, "Kiss Me Deadly" and "Close My Eyes Forever" are fantastic songs that I love - The Runaways were just stacked with talent.

How can you go wrong with both Lita Ford AND Joan Jett together. Come on....Doesn't get better than that.

( by the way I also loved Lita's "Falling in and out of love"....another awesome song with incredible guitar work from Lita).

GrumpyCatStevens t1_je742ub wrote

It's probably because I remember her mostly for her solo career, but in my mental picture of Lita she's usually playing a B.C. Rich. And of course she's in tight leather and her hair is teased to the ceiling.

IcebergSlimFast t1_je791u3 wrote

I saw her as a solo act in 1988. She came out wearing a “sexy lady cop” uniform, then part way through the first song ripped off what turned out to be a tear-away mini-skirt and shirt, and played the rest of the set in black lingerie. As a teenager at the time, I thought she looked ancient - turns out she was only 29/30!

The_Observatory_ t1_je7kao0 wrote

I have a walnut SG. Gibson made it in 1979, and the model name is just "The SG." I love that guitar more than anything else I own. My older brother bought it from some random guy in 1983, played it for a few years, then sold it to me in 1987 when he got distracted by a red Jackson Randy Rhoads flying V. I've been playing the SG ever since, nearly every day. There's nothing fancy about it, it's not collectible or worth a lot, but for me it plays better than any other guitar I've ever played. It's got a fast, thin neck and low action, just a dream to play. It's sitting on a stand right behind me and if I get a chance tonight, I'll play it until it's time to go to sleep.

The Netflix biopic “The Runaways” was pretty good except it bothered me how Lita was invisible in the movie and yet the most accomplished musician in the group.

Part of it has to be what's gone on in her life the last 15 years.

But Joan Jett is pretty damn accomplished as well

I can't believe this got you downvoted. The Runaways were phenomenal musicians, but the way they were treated - as legal children! - had as much in common with human trafficking as with music production.

NonAggressive-Ask t1_jecpa0w wrote

same here, people just want to be happy about a rocker chick photo, they get really resentful when you point our all the pedophilia which took place juuuuuuust behind the scenes. they don't want to think about that, they don't want to be forced to care. and so it goes.
