Ahh those masks that fog up your skin, with edges that cut and the elastic string that's stapled on.

But yeah this is 80s.

Smurfs existed before the US TV show, but I agree with you, this is a pic from 1981 or later.

Yeah you are probably right. My mom sent me this picture and when I asked her when it was she told me 70's. But she was in school during both 70's and 80's so she very well could have mixed it up

No earlier than 1981 because I see 2 "Greatest American Hero" costumes.

I don't think that's really Gene Simmons just poorly executed Grampa Munster or Dracula hence the widow's peak.

I honestly thought Count Chocula when I saw that mask. Gene never came to mind.

I'd still think early 80s though because of the Evel Knievel costumes.

Smurfs have been around since the late 1950s. I mean, for the sake of argument, we could say it is the 70s, and a German relative sent over a Smurf costume for the kid. It's not likely, but...you never know. ;)

4

IthilienBoy t1_iujqssb wrote

that's all fair but I happen to know that costume was licensed from the TV show.

Toxicscrew t1_iukbxfh wrote

Yep, I used to walk up to out local drugstore (outside St Louis, MO) and they had a rack of them (Smurf figurines) for sale. This was 78-early 80 as we moved from there in mid 80.

Halloween 1977, Superman and Evel Knievel were very popular, surprised to see Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo and Chewbacca were also popular. I was R2 D2 with a paper mache dome mom made. Couldn’t see a thing and had to be carried by my arms up stairs with a parent on each side.

Edit: Smurf off you stupid smurf! Ruining my happy memory of 1977!
