I like them both (and The Undead, Misfits without Danzig. Have you heard them?)
They kind of went backwards compared to other bands. The Misfits had more widespread appeal, they were horror movie nerds who sang punk rock. Then Samhain got less kitschy and darker and didn't have the same branding. They got "serious" and didn't care about their skull shirts being sold in skate shops anymore.

I haven’t heard The Undead. I’ll have to check them out… Yeah, I agree with you about Misfits/Samhain. That’s kind of why I like them more. Lyrically, I find Samhain more interesting. Although I do love horror and monsters and shit. Lol
