It's funny that they played at The Continental, that's a roots rock/country joint

Anyone else remember when Samhain went on tour with Danzig and AFI? That was weird

I like them both (and The Undead, Misfits without Danzig. Have you heard them?)

They kind of went backwards compared to other bands. The Misfits had more widespread appeal, they were horror movie nerds who sang punk rock. Then Samhain got less kitschy and darker and didn't have the same branding. They got "serious" and didn't care about their skull shirts being sold in skate shops anymore.

I haven’t heard The Undead. I’ll have to check them out… Yeah, I agree with you about Misfits/Samhain. That’s kind of why I like them more. Lyrically, I find Samhain more interesting. Although I do love horror and monsters and shit. Lol

I saw Samhain twice in NYC. The first time was at Danceteria and then again a year later at The Ritz. During their encore, they came out covered in fake blood, just like the cover of the Initium album. I was standing in front of the stage and got some of it on me during Archangel. The train ride home covered in blood made for an interesting evening.

I love Samhain, but unfortunately, some of the recordings are less than stellar. Not that I think the productions should have been super polished, but I wish they had the means to record slightly higher-quality albums. That's a minor quibble though, as the songs themselves are super dark and super catchy. Style-wise, for me, they were a perfect middle ground between Misfits and Danzig.

Glenn Danzig, buff n’ stuff. He’s your pal when the pit gets rough.

Basically, yeah. The "samh" part is "sow," as in a female pig (not as in sowing seeds), and the "ain" part can be pronounced as "in" or "an." It should really be "an" but it's unstressed, so may be softened to "in."
