You're absolutely correct, of course. My bad. I didn't fact check the blurb that came with the image. Lesson learned. Thanks for the heads-up. Oh, and great Elvis knowledge.
"He had made a splashy comeback in a widely acclaimed NBC special in December 1968. But he hadn't performed live onstage in more than eight years. So when he opened in Las Vegas on July 31, 1969 — the start of a four-week engagement at the brand new International Hotel".

Yes to me this was peak Elvis after all those mostly terrible (imo) movies.

He was perfection here. In every way. Will never look dated.

The '68 Special was filmed in California, a more intimate affair than the big live shows which followed.
He looks so good here!

It's incredible how he went downhill so quickly in 5 years to his Hawaii special, and his last performance and death 4 years after that. Such a rapid looking decline considering the way he looked and sounded in 1968. Addictions.
He had so much left that he could have give had he gotten help, and been managed by people who had gotten him the help.

I know, I can't bear to look at the last onstage photos of him, bloated and lacking that spark. And only 42.

What are you talking about op? This is the 1968 NBC tv special, nothing to do with his return to vegas which was a year later.
