I remember my mom telling a story about how everyone in my grandma's village around that time had to dress up as an old woman or little girl or risk execution/sexual assault. My dad said he and his brothers would go out everyday to forage for food or else dinner would be a single bowl of rice split 7 ways. Shit was rough.

I don't think anyone's scared of economic success. They are however scared of brutal, repressive regimes with a history of bringing about the deaths of millions of their own people and minorities.

And when those regime's start flexing their muscles.. well we know how that goes, don't we

Wait, are we talking about the US or what?

I think we're long beyond the point that this is a remotely controversial comment.

As we well know, the US as well as the UK and others have fucked the middle east and countless other smaller countries, and we pay the price daily.

But I'd take a world dominated by the US over one dominated by China or Russia every fucking day of the week.

US and UK definitely play their part but I'd argue the repressive religious governments in most of these countries are more at fault

Where do you see Reddit scared of the economic success in Asia? If anything I mostly see near-propagandist praise of China and other Asian countries, so I'm surprised to see that comment.

Really? Reddit praising China outside of fringe subs like r/sino? You can't even have a normal photo of mainland China without at least a dozen "China Bad" comments. Are we on the same platform?

Reddit has a never-ending raging hard-on for Japan, and the last time I looked they didn't constitute the whole of Asia, except history subs, they remember when Japan tried...

I mean, China did manage to develop a solid middle class over the last few decades so there is at least some objective progress compared to the past. But I have never seen anything praising China on Reddit aside from that fact.

This is some of the biggest cap I have ever heard. You either haven't been on reddit since 2012 or you are straight lying. Or you've been living under a rock. Literally all you have to do is type in 'China' into the reddit search bar and you will be blasted by 90%+ negative anti China posts or comments sections on normal things in China filled with people trying to bring the Chinese government into it somehow.

Ok, I'll do the search. Probably should have done that instead of asking, it would have spared me the unnecessary bs you threw at me just for the crime of asking a question. I just didn't think of it at the time, and ultimately it's up to me to be informed, not some stranger on the internet.

Thanks.

Don't thank me thank yourself for coming to this realization that people shouldn't be having to spoonfeed you information in this day and age. Your commemt gave off dismissive vibes and seemed to be made in bad faith and the people responding to you are calling you out because of that. Especially when what you said is so easily disproved by a simple search. If this were you recalling an anecdotal experience then you might have gotten the benefit of the doubt but this is not very subjective at all, especially when the ratio is so heavily one sided.

It’s simple. The PRC govt actions deserve all the hate they get.

Idk man based off your logic I think you need to pay for the slaughter of natives and hundreds of thousands of deaths from Iraq. And for allowing religious conservatives to determine bodily autonomy and for killing and imprisoning black Americans at disproportionate rates. Oh wait did I get off topic and start blaming you for every action your government has ever done? What did that have to do with the post? Did I contribute in a meaningful way? Doesn't matter because the American govt deserves it.

American here. I'd love the whole world to thrive, all of Asia included. I'd be fine with, say, China being the sole world superpower if its regime wasn't so fucking garbage
