My grandpa being the decorated in 1942 for saving what was left of the cruiser Trento’s crew the, sunk during the allied operation Harpoon. He was a machinist engineer. At that time was either the army or being outlaw, and he had a big family on his shoulders, I think very few of us today would have the balls to go against the status quo and sacrifice everything, besides you can’t reasonably think that every single Italian in the army at that time was a monster. Considering the consequences. Btw they weren’t Jews, when Mussolini was arrested and the Germans took over anyone who would refuse to fight for the German cause was sent to concentration camps.
