What a great photo. This woman fought NAZIS and won. The Soviet people sacrificed hugely to defeat Hitler despite their own leader.

For those who wonder; her name is Ludmila Pavlitjenko. If i remember correctly she recived that rifle as a reward together with the award Hero of the soviet union, but she more or less never used it as she prefered her mosin rifle. There's a memoir on her called "Lady Death", if you're interested.

You possibly missed the part about "despite their own leader". If Hitler had quickly defeated the USSR and gained control of all the resources of that vast country, it would be a much different world today. Soviets, like this lady, is why it didn't happen.

Just wondering How did she pass away ? Did she die in battle? 🤷🏻‍♂️ . Snipers is a very risky task in battle.

She lived to be pretty old. There’s a great historical fiction novel based on her called “The Diamond Eye.”
