I may be wrong but don't they only keep you in the hospital if you are at risk for hurting yourself or others? Otherwise they figure out medication, set you up with therapy and send you home.

For the typical person, yes, because that’s all insurance will approve. I’m sure the healthcare benefits for congressmen are a lot better than the rest of the population.

Surely a member of congress would understand the optics here and not go inpatient unless it was serious. My conspiracy theory is that it’s actually about his stroke and recovery but they don’t want to say that

Depression is an very common after effect of strokes, so yes it’s about his stroke, and it has been mentioned as such.
