If you need to hunt with a semi auto rifle, you shouldn’t be hunting

Biggie313 t1_j8ij9lp wrote

Why do you say that? I've hunted with a semi-auto in MD plenty of times. Being able to take a follow-up shot faster and cleaner isn't a bad / "unfair" thing.

Dredly t1_j8incaw wrote

The concern in PA is the volume of hunters generally. Close to 1m in the woods is a sizeable risk.

4

Biggie313 t1_j8inses wrote

1m? Was does the volume of hunters matter? a .308 round from a bolt action is no different than from a semi-auto.

7

Dredly t1_j8iolep wrote

Except a 308 round is different then 5 of them...

1

Biggie313 t1_j8iqgey wrote

But bolt actions can hold 5 also. Sure the rate of fire will be slower, but you need a target to shoot at. If you have a clean, safe shot, it doesn't matter if you shoot 1 shot per 10 seconds, or 5. You still need to acquire the target, make sure its safe, and make a clean shot.

Just because one rifle can shoot faster doesn't meet you are going to be spraying bullets everywhere in the woods.

You vastly overestimate hunters. Go to a public gun range anytime after 11/1 and let me know how confident you are in that statement

2

Biggie313 t1_j8jdg41 wrote

I've been hunting and going to public ranges for 25 years now.

3

Dredly t1_j8jjsby wrote

Then you fully understand that a terrifying number of hunters should 5 bullets a year total and have 0 firearm skills

2

Biggie313 t1_j8jn32n wrote

Sure I understand some people are less / under experienced. But I also don't think keeping hunters from using semi-auto or pistols solves anything.

ScienceWasLove t1_j8orvg9 wrote

Such Bullshit. You can hunt w/ semi autos in PA, just not for deer.

2

AbsructCigar t1_j8ifmbr wrote

That's a dumb argument to make. PA has some of the strangest laws when it comes to hunting and what calibers you can use. People in surrounding states have been using AR15's to unt with for years yet in PA you can only use it to hunt coyotes. With A lever action rifle yiu can technically shoit as fast as semi auto loading yet again you can hunt with a 30-30 but not a semi auto. Most 22lr you buy are semi auto now and other states hunt with ruger 10/22 backpackers. I can keep going PA has been behind everyone else for ages

They are absolute idiots.

We shouldn’t cater to idiots

A Subaru Baja is technically a pickup truck. It's closer to an F150 than a fucking lever action is to a true semi-auto.

AbsructCigar t1_j8jj1n0 wrote

I messed up my comment and didn't mean to say lever actions are semi autos I meant to say you can shoot them just as fast. I get the argument i just feel people need to realize the AR isn't just. 223 22 caliber gun. There are many caliber options that would benefit in hunting like 308 and 6.5

Geo_btw t1_j8iek23 wrote

semi auto shotgun is okay though? whats the difference?

[deleted] t1_j8iep6u wrote

You don’t know the difference between what an AR bullet does compared to a slug…

Man, I’m glad I’ll never be in the woods with you

4

Geo_btw t1_j8iipvb wrote

slugs do way more damage my dude lol.

3

[deleted] t1_j8iive9 wrote

Yeah, no. If you don’t know what a AR bullet does after it hits, you’re a clueless person. Which I already knew.

Biggie313 t1_j8ik1v8 wrote

standard 55 gr .223 kinetic energy = ~1300 ft/lb.

standard 12 ga slug ~3000 ft/lb

You watch too many CNN reporters get PTSD from shooting a 22 caliber (.223) rifle.

Do you think 9mm will literally blow the lungs out of someone's body?

Geo_btw t1_j8ikdcy wrote

thank you for this. idk what that guys problem is. wait until he learns how powerful a bolt action 30-06 is!

6

[deleted] t1_j8ikysc wrote

So you don’t know what a small faster moving bullet does when it enters?

Being a dumb con doesn’t mean you get to be dumb with guns.

4

Biggie313 t1_j8il8jb wrote

Sure I do, I've shot animals with both .223, 12ga slug, and several other rounds. .223 is far weaker than nearly every other rifle / shotgun caliber.

Have you ever actually been hunting?

2

[deleted] t1_j8ilctp wrote

And it doesn’t tumble inside and destroy the meat..because a small faster bullet does exactly that.

Clueless guy

7

Biggie313 t1_j8imavp wrote

No it doesn't. If it hits bone it will fragment, or else it will just blow tl right through. But a slower expanding hollow / soft point will make a bigger wound.

Why do you keep trying to insult me?

Not wasting any more time on this. You obviously have no real life experience.

[deleted] t1_j8in7pk wrote

I posted a Doctor showing your take to be absolutely dumb, so now you have to run. Huh

4

Biggie313 t1_j8inl81 wrote

One article. It's a fact lots of other common hunting rifles have more energy and do more "damage" than .223. You just dont want to believe anything other than how scary the "AR15" is...

But also, hunting with semi auto's isn't just about AR-15's. You can hunting with a bolt action .308 now, but not a semi auto AR-10...

6

[deleted] t1_j8insa5 wrote

Again, just ignoring it and saying the same false talking points. Go back to Newsmax. Huh

gslavik t1_j8m24ts wrote

What's the difference between shooting a .223 Remington out of an AR15 (or another semi auto) versus a Savage Axis II chambered in .223 Remington?

AbsructCigar t1_j8igdpl wrote

It's apparent you don't and you're just making random comments

Grumpicake t1_j8ih10l wrote

I would agree on handguns, but rifles? Just asking for trouble on public game lands.

−1

AbsructCigar t1_j8iiom3 wrote

Not if you limit the magazine to 5 rounds like they limit shotguns to 3. I've seen guys hunt bears with 10mm handguns like glocks. Why can't we use handguns, but can use revolvers
