Wasn’t he the guy who said he would essentially act like an independent?

He did, but in the end it seems like it was basically just a wink and nod, and he never officially changed his registration as far as I know.

Damn. I’m guessing this is already causing a shitstorm with R’s in the general assembly.

James19991 OP t1_jae2kze wrote

Yeah, they were complaining for weeks that he never officially changed his party like he promised. It really feels like at this point the whole thing was a wink and nod to hold off a Republican attempt to elect a speaker of their own until the three Democratic seats were filled.

It’s kind of refreshing. It baffles how unwilling Dems are to play actual politics most of the time. I’m sure it makes them feel all good about themselves, but Dems need RESULTS in Pennsylvania. The 2020 results proves R’s don’t have a stranglehold on state politics.

I agree. I know the Senate is Republican controlled, but hopefully the Democratic state house will show what's possible if Democrats control the Senate too.

I expected this honestly. Hopefully we can get things really rolling now and not just stall forever.

Surely *this* time the Republicans won't pull the football away.

There are still a few republicans who opperate in good faith. That's how Rozzi got the job in the first place.

“Operating in good faith” and “desperation” are not the same things

Lol yea I’m sure those “moderate republicans” would have come to their senses and “worked across the aisle”, just like they always do.

Republicans won't change their behavior. Dems have been pussies for far too long. Time to give the GOP a taste of their own medicine. Dems constantly take the high road only to be fucked in the end. Not this time. I'll send Cutler a box of tissues.

I get what you are saying, but in this case he was losing that republican vote because he wouldn't commit to the deals he conceded to get the seat in the first place, so he's been on borrowed time from the beginning.

What deals were they?

Pairing Rozzi's bipartisan constitutional amendment to allow child sex abuse victims to sue their perpetrators long after the crime was committed with the GOP's anti-abortion and anti-regulator constitutional amendments that were entirely unrelated and partisan.

Who would have thought that sheerly political machinations were afoot in the Pennsylvania House?

Seems like he ended up playing the GOP quite well.

Why do you think it's inappropriate for a political body of elected politicians to be political? What do you think that word means?
