Hello all I am moving from Canada to PA for work and was wondering if my Canadian drivers license is sufficient to let me lease a car and drive in PA. I know some countries issue international driving permit, is this required for Canadian licenses as well? Also, can I be issued a PA license by just providing my Canadian lisence without having to under go the tests?

Thank you in advance

You may drive with your license in PA

>5. Can I drive in Pennsylvania with my Foreign Driver's License? Individuals who possess a valid foreign driver's license from their country are authorized to drive in Pennsylvania for up to one year from their date of entry into the United States, or upon expiration of their foreign license, whichever comes first. International driving permits are strongly recommended, but not required.

I'd suggest printing off this page and keeping it on your person while driving. You never know if you're going to get an idiot cop that doesn't know the law and wants to impound your car because it isn't "properly registered".

Less than year you're good with a Canadian license. Longer than a year you're supposed to get a state license but I'm not sure how often this is actually enforced.

From my understanding you do need to retake the tests but the US driving tests are genuinely quite easy and would probably take part of an afternoon for an experienced driver.

Legally you can lease a car with an international license. Your works HR might be able to help you with some of this relocation info.

You can also always contact the DMV make sure you're getting correct info https://www.dmv.pa.gov/pages/Contact-Us.aspx

I don't know about international exchange for a PA license, I do know that if you have a current valid driver's license you can normally exchange it with proof of residency.
