Karma farming is bad. Some people build karma farming accounts to later sell after a substantial amount of karma has been accrued. These accounts are sold to advertisement/marketing companies, because these accounts allow them to post in popular subreddits that usually have a karma cap. Once sold, these accounts are blatantly used for advertisement, sometimes not even marked as such.

Cool, I just looked at one and it said it doesn't pay more than 100 bucks for an account. I'll check around.
