They contain a toxin (I don’t know exactly how toxic they are). I identified the same species a few days ago and looked it up. They’re typically found near decaying trees and tree roots, I learned.

I think you need a camera with the exposure set for 15 seconds or more. It's a very faint light

I've always known these to be called jack-o-lanterns. I do not believe that they are edible but, I could be wrong.
