Hey guys I’m sure people ask a lot but I’m looking to move to Pa. Looking at York county and surrounding counties right now but open to suggestions. I’m front Delaware so I’m used to cheaper property taxes lol but overly priced houses. Why are taxes so high and what is it like with car insurance etc?

I have never explored the York area, but Lancaster seems a bit more prosperous than other parts of the state. It has a decent arts scene and tech scene.
If he's a drug dealer then York might be better?

I'd say it's a saturated market.
And restaurants, medical care, education, shopping. …..
No one lives here. We're all just slowly dying.
Facts
I've lived in central Pennsylvania for over 10 years. York is kind of...not good (sorry York residents). I've only driven through York on a few occasions, but the city is very rundown and a lot of homes just look poorly maintained. York has a lot of crime from what I understand too, far more than it should for a city of it's size. Not anywhere near as bad as Philadelphia, but Philly has like 10x the population of York, while York still has an unusually high crime rate. York has a serious heroin epidemic too.
I used to live in Harrisburg and recently moved to Lancaster. I didn't really like living in Harrisburg either, but it's still a lot better than York, it just gets kind of boring after awhile and the pandemic really caused a lot of businesses to close permanently. Since moving to Lancaster, I love it here, but the cost of living is a lot higher than York and Harrisburg. There are a lot of activities though and things seem to actually change here, rather than remaining static like Harrisburg. Lancaster is a lot more rural though. Even the city of Lancaster doesn't really have a single high-rise. I think you might want to look at Harrisburg if you're looking for a good balance of urban and rural setting without being priced out of the market. Lancaster is great if you can afford it and want a more rural setting.

I think Lancaster was just rated one of the best small cities.

Great restaurants—people actually travel here from NYC, Philly, DC, etc for the restaurants.
Education—Very good public school districts, plus Franklin & Marshall College, Elizabethtown College, Millersville U.
Healthcare—UPenn, PSU, and UPMC are building hospitals and clinics all over the place and in fierce competition
Arts & Entertainment—vibrant and growing, galleries, concert venues,
Welcome to the Lehigh valley where you have some great school districts family friendly and depend on your career you can find some great opportunities for work and low crime areas

We like kinda a mix of rural but I’d still like to be close to civilization 😂. I guess more of a country setting. I’m an auto mechanic and we just like nature and PA seems nice. Better then DE for housing market.
i was going to provide more practical guidance but, I was failing to so here’s an opinionated response. I grew up in york county but spending all my time in cumberland and dauphin county. york county is great for joyrides but in my opinion not much else

I live in York County. Don't think the taxes are high relative to the surrounding areas. It seems the more rural you go, the cheaper the taxes. Perry county is going to be cheap, but inventory is low. My car insurance for full coverage on an SUV is like 50 bucks a month. York county isn't bad. Neither is Dauphin and Cumberland. The west shore (Cumberland county) is really blowing up in terms of housing and businesses, but the aging roadways are making it a nightmare to get around.
